As the New Year begins, I feel very honored to be featured in a blog post by the wonderful Kara Gold.

The following was the blog post I published on her Instagram page, accompanied by some beautiful photos she took of me a few years ago.

If my year of 2020 was going to be an album, it would be called “Back to Basics” (Sorry to steal your 2006 album title Miss. Aguilera!)

I lost multiple jobs due to the pandemic and ended up staying with my family far longer than I had planned. In July, it was decided that my family’s home would be sold within the year, marking our final months here. This time away from theatre, while surrounded by the walls of my youth, has transported me back to my origins and compelled me to think about the life I want post- Covid. This year has reinforced my conviction that acting and storytelling are my vocation. The result has led to me enthusiastically re-investing in my artistry, directing my energy with a renewed sense of determination and grace.

The following is a small excerpt of a piece I recently wrote. I think it summarizes my thoughts well:

“The golden October sun, the chilly fall air, and the remains of an unused fireplace greet me as I awake. “I wonder who last used that fireplace?” I ponder as I allow my feet to hit the cold wooden floor and begin to amble about my childhood home. Wondering about the stories this 1790 New England farmhouse had seen, was a common pastime of mine growing up. I envisioned music filling the halls for colonial balls, abolitionists debating around the kitchen hearth, children playing Star Wars on the front lawn and more. Is it any wonder then, that after growing up in a house overflowing with stories, I would become an actor and a storyteller?

A love for storytelling swept me along through the tight confines of my twelve years of Catholic schooling, propelled me through four joyful years of college, and acted as my anchor through every step in my early 20s.

My parents are selling the farmhouse this year. We’ve lived here for about 30 years, a small portion of time in a house that has stood for over 200 years. Similarly, I am only alive for a relatively short time. While here, I want to use my life to possess all my potential as an actor. Through storytelling, I will create community and enable storytelling to lead others as it has led me.”
